Rationale for why you selected the model and how it can support the needs of early learners

  • Here at Little Dreamers in the Clouds, we chose to focus on Montessori’s model because we appreciate the autonomous teachings provided by educators. We agree with providing children with the opportunity to challenge what they know through exploration and experimenting. Providing a safe space where children are unconsciously learning through play. Montesorri acknowledged the importance of how significant the environment children participate in. The absorbent mind focuses on the role of a child’s surroundings while they are at play.
  • Cowan et. al. (1969) describes how Piaget's general theory of development claims to describe changes in stages of cognitive organization. In other words, different stages in a child’s life define what level of understanding they see in their environment due to biological maturation. Piaget’s theory of development supports Montessori’s model by catering to how a child’s understanding of the world around them develops over time.
  • Students will be provided with an enriching play area to support them in learning not only about their intrinsic education, but also an understanding of how they conceptualize the world around them.

Age Groups

Our programs cater to a variety of age groups and developmental stages, including infants (6 weeks - 12 months), 1 and 2 year old's, and 3-4 year old's. We tailor our approach to meet the unique needs of each age group.

Describe the materials, furniture, and resources present in each learning space/classroom

  • The materials in the classroom are going to be in good condition and clean. They are also going to be easily accessible to students.
  • The furniture is going to be light weight to easily be moved around to encourage students to manipulate their environment.
  • The resources are going to be stocked, but not overly stocked to represent order and harmony in the classroom.

Emotional Well-being

We incorporate emotional well-being and positive relationships into our curriculum by respecting children as capable, autonomous individuals. This fosters self-confidence and emotional resilience. Our environment allows children to make choices, solve problems, and manage emotions in real situations.
